RUSH Permanent Waves (1980)
Permanent Waves by RUSH is their eighth album. Released in January 1980 on Anthem Records. Produced by Terry Brown & Rush, recorded in late 1979 at Le Studio in Morin Heights, Quebec and mixed at Trident Studios in London.
Permanent Waves became the bands most successful album at the time of release, reaching #3 in Canada and the United Kingdom and #4 in the United States. Singles from the album were “The Spirit of Radio”, “Freewill”, and “Entre Nous.
Artwork (as with all Rush album covers) is by Canadian award winning graphic artist, Hugh Syme, who can be seen on the cover (multiple visual puns) in front of a huge tidal “wave”, “waving” to model Paula Turnbull (who has a fabulous un fussed “permanent wave” hairstyle).
